Clearfield Co., PA (WJAC) — Earlier this month, officials from Clearfield County made the decision to fire the prison's warden David Gallagher.
On Tuesday, 6 News attended the county’s first prison board meeting since the decision, where residents voiced their complaints about how the prison has been operating.
David Gallagher started working as the warden in October of last year. Since then, the Clearfield County jail has faced backlash from the community due to drug overdoses inside and even inmates escaping.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa (WJAC) — Gumby's Pizza shop, located in downtown State College, was cited by a state health inspector on Friday for causing an "imminent health hazard" and using one of its food prep tables to give people tattoos, according to a report.

JOHNSTOWN – Two people being sought on arrest warrants in Cambria County were apprehended Wednesday by members of the U.S. Marshals Western Pennsylvania Fugitive Task Force.
Officials said Blaine Vincent Jackson, 40, and Melissa A. Coleman, 42, were taken into custody in the 2700 block of Mosside Boulevard in Monroeville, Allegheny County.
Jackson was wanted on firearm, narcotics and theft charges, while Coleman was wanted on narcotics violations.
Both were taken to the Cambria County Prison.

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Authorities in Cambria County say one person was taken to the hospital Wednesday afternoon following a train versus passenger vehicle collision.
911 officials say the incident occurred just after 2 p.m. in the area of Krings Street and Eisenhower Blvd. in Richland.
According to a witness, the SUV was reportedly stopped on the tracks when it was struck by a CSX freight train.
Flaggers were also reportedly nearby, directing traffic, as that intersection has seen a recent increase in traffic due to a local detour.
Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — A second victim has come forward to file a lawsuit against a New England-area gymnastics coach over allegations of sexual misconduct which reportedly occurred at the Woodward Gymnastics Camp in Centre County.
The new lawsuit, filed on behalf of a Canadian woman, claims that now 26-year-old Nathaniel Singer pursued an intimate relationship with a junior counselor, in 2016, when she was just 17-years-old.

CENTRE COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Fundraising to repair and refurbish Bellefonte's Kepler pool is ongoing, but organizers say it’s going to be awhile before the pool is reopened.

NEW YORK (AP) — New York City stepped up its efforts to push migrants out of its overwhelmed shelters Wednesday as it began enforcing a new rule that limits some adult asylum-seekers to a month in the system before they have to find a bed on their own.
Migrants without young children must now move out of the hotels, tent complexes and other shelter facilities run by the city and find other housing after 30 days, unless they provide proof of “extenuating circumstances” and are granted an exemption.
HUNTINGDON COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — In Huntingdon County, the Whipple Dam State Park is reopening following the completion of a dredging project.
According to the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, the park reopened Friday after having been closed since September 2019.
Officials say 40,000 cubic yards of sediment was removed from the lake bed.
The department also repaved all the paved surfaces in the park and restored several fish habitat structures and turtle platforms.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (WJAC) — Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a possible Walmart theft suspect in State College.
Police say on March 15, the woman stole multiple items, including a hover board, from the Benner Pike Walmart store.
In surveillance video, the suspect appears to be in her 20s or 30s and is wearing a green shirt, white vest, orange jacket and jeans.

WASHINGTON (TND) — The impact may not be known for decades, but the population of undocumented migrants living in the United States appears to have more than doubled in the last three years.
Since the start of 2021, U.S. Customs and Border Protection reports that 9.6 million migrants have been encountered, with another 1.7 million estimated “gotaways,” bringing the total to 11.3 million.
Around 10.2 million were estimated to live in the United States at the end of 2020.

According to the Bellefonte Police Department, 36-year-old Desmond Boyer faces two felony counts of raping a child, five felony counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, five felony counts of aggravated indecent assault of a person less than 13 years of age, three felony counts of indecent assault of a person less than 13 years of age, two felony counts of unlawful contact with a minor and three felony counts of felony attempted rape of a child.
ERIE COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Authorities say two men accused of defrauding customers in several western Pennsylvania counties have been ordered to pay thousands of dollars in restitution and other fines and penalties.
Attorney General Josh Shapiro filed a lawsuit against Howard Stahl and his son, Nolan Stahl, in December 2018. The Stahls offered services in eight counties through their businesses: Pearl Plumbing Inc., Roto-Rooter and Stahl Brothers Plumbing Inc.

INDIANA COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — State police say charges have been filed against a Kittanning man following an investigation into allegations that he sexually abused a young, female relative decades ago.
Police say the victim, who is now 28 years old, reported that she had been sexually abused by 51-year-old William Piper at multiple locations in Rayne Township, Indiana County.
According to the affidavit, troopers say the victim recalled one incident, when she was 5 years old, in which Piper reportedly performed sexual acts on her.

Mark Musser, of Ewing Road, was charged Tuesday after police allegedly found numerous videos and photos of the girl on his phone.
According to a probable-cause affidavit, three of the videos showed the two having sex. According to the affidavit, the girl told police that shortly after Musser was released from prison on bail in a related case, the two connected on Snapchat and later began meeting in person.

GULICH TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WJAC) — Authorities said one person died Tuesday night in a crash in Gulich Township.
According to state police, 22-year-old Seth Gallaher was driving on Union Street when he veered off the road and overturned several times.
Police said Gallaher was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the car. He was the only person in the car.
Police believe Gallaher was speeding prior to the crash.

Blair Co., PA (WJAC) — The Way of Truth Ministries, from Altoona, will be having its second Pennsylvania Bible Reading Marathon, on May 20th through the 24th, on the steps of the state capitol building.
Volunteers are needed to fill in 360 15-minute time slots so that the bible can be read continuously for 24 hours a day over the period.

Pottstown, PA (WCAU) — At least four people are dead after an explosion in a Pennsylvania neighborhood.
The blast happened at a home in Pottstown Thursday evening.
First responders say four people were killed and two others were injured in the blast that damaged several homes.

Three Allegheny County residents have been charged after they allegedly stole from vehicles and led police on a chase in Centre County.

The new Fifth Avenue location is part of the Public Private Partnership.

Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — Authorities say one person was taken into custody early Thursday morning following an alleged police raid at a home along Old Hickory Lane, in Upper Yoder Township.
Officials say the arrest was part of an investigation by the state attorney general's office.
Police say the individual, who has not yet been identified, was arrested on an active drug warrant.
Authorities with Johnstown Police, Upper Yoder Police, Cambria County SERT and state parole assisted with the arrest.

In Cambria County, some people are not happy with the condition of some of the roads in Middle Taylor Township.
One couple says recent grant money awarded to the township was supposed to fix some of those roads, including one that leads to their wedding venue, but they say now the township is using that money to fix other roads in the same area.

No one was injured in an early morning house fire on Grove Avenue in Johnstown around midnight on Saturday.
Garyanna Hill, an owner of the home, said crews told her it was caused by an electrical issue.
She said there were multiple people in the home at the time, but that everyone made it out safely.
Hill said she woke up to the flames after her mother and daughter made the discovery.
Blair Co., PA (WJAC) — Following her arrest earlier this week in an alleged murder-for-hire plot, 6 News began looking into Heather Dibert’s lengthy criminal history, which dates back the past few decades.
According to online court documents, she has been charged with assault, threats, and thefts over the years.
One of her cases, from march of 2012, involved a woman named Fawn Mountain.
Fawn Mountain is a Blair County woman who disappeared in November of 2012.

Indiana County, PA (WJAC) — Authorities in Westmoreland and Indiana counties are searching for a man accused of multiple burglaries and a carjacking earlier this week.
Troopers say Michael Aaron Whitfield reportedly stole a 2003 brown Ford F-250 early Wednesday morning in Blairsville.
Police say he was last seen around 6:30 a.m. in the area of Hitchman's Supply in Derry Township.

Cambria Co., PA (WJAC) — Authorities say two people were seriously injured Wednesday afternoon following a crash on Route 22 in Cambria County.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Three men charged in the 2018 prison killing of notorious Boston gangster James "Whitey" Bulger have reached plea deals with prosecutors, according to court papers filed Monday.
The plea deals for Fotios “Freddy” Geas, Paul J. DeCologero and Sean McKinnon were disclosed nearly six years after the 89-year-old gangster was beaten to death in his cell at a troubled West Virginia prison.
Geas, a onetime Mafia hitman, and DeCologero, a Massachusetts gangster, were accused of repeatedly hitting Bulger in the head while McKinnon served as a lookout.

Authorities say more charges have been filed against a western Pennsylvania nurse who is accused of intentionally overdosing multiple patients with insulin.
In May, officials filed charges of homicide and attempted murder against 41-year-old Heather Pressdee, of Natrona Heights, after learning that she had allegedly administered lethal doses of insulin to several patients, killing two of them.
Now, the Attorney General's office says Pressdee is facing additional counts of first-degree murder, attempted murder, and neglect of care after investigators say a total of 17 patients, across five nursing care facilities, died while in her care.

Bedford Co., PA (WJAC) — State police in Bedford County have charged a Buffalo Mills man with multiple sex crimes after he was accused of having a "sexual relationship" with a female student.
Troopers say Jarrod Clapper, 24, faces felony counts of sexual contact with a student in/near a school, corruption of minors and unlawful contact with a minor, according to online court documents.
Authorities say in January of this year, troopers were contacted by a school resource officer for the Bedford Area School District to report a possible sexual relationship between a female student and a member of the school's IT department.

WOODBURY TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WJAC) — State police are looking for at least one suspect who they said crashed a bulldozer Monday.
They said it happened in Woodbury Township near Hickory Bottom Road and Pulpit Road and the bulldozer belonged to Cottles Asphalt Maintenance.
Someone who wasn’t allowed to use the equipment drove the bulldozer into an asphalt roller, causing substantial damage, according to police.
They said the roller is valued at $20,000.
A tense situation in Cambria County happened Thursday morning, ending with a suspect in custody.
Richland Township Police said they were alerted to a domestic situation.
When they responded, police say they were told the man, who was alleged to be involved, took off, while armed with a handgun.
Investigators said they tracked him to a home along Banyon Drive, but the suspect refused to meet or talk to officers.

Pittsburgh (WJAC) — The Pittsburgh Steelers announced Sunday night that they have traded offensive guard Kevin Dotson to the Los Angeles Rams.
Pittsburgh will receive multiple draft picks in return, including the Rams' 2024 fourth-round pick.

SIGEL - A Jefferson County restaurant where generations of customers enjoyed meals was destroyed by an early-morning fire Tuesday. Assistant Chief Justin Miller, with the Sigel Volunteer Fire Department, said crews were called to the restaurant at Farmers Inn on Route 949 around 3:30 a.m.
Owner Kim Lucas said the business just celebrated its 40th anniversary this year. Lucas said Farmers Inn started as a small burger shop in 1977 and quickly grew into a place the community has grown to love.

BEDFORD COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — A Chestnut Ridge school official accused of failing to properly report allegations of sexual assault involving a middle school student appeared in court Wednesday where some of his charges were withdrawn or dismissed.
Patrick Isgan, the Vice Principal of the Chestnut Ridge Middle School, was charged last month following an investigation into numerous complaints that that a 12-year-old male student had been repeatedly sexually assaulting other students on one of the district's buses.

CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — The Centre County town of Boalsburg claims to be the birthplace of Memorial Day with the first memorial service dating back to the Civil War era.
Boalsburg dates back to just after the Revolutionary War, when a member of the Boal family, a soldier, was given a parcel of land. When there was no money to pay soldiers back then they were given property.

Bellefonte, PA (WJAC) — Downtown Bellefonte is getting new artwork.
A one-thousand-square-foot mural, located along the 100 block of Allegheny Street, next to the Waffle Shop is nearly complete.
The mural was done by "Key Detail," from New York City, who have installed murals across the world.
According to Downtown Bellefonte Incorporated, the mural pays tribute to “National Air Mail and Bellefonte’s role in that rich history.”

Officials say first responders were dispatched to Ridge Limestone Inc., located in Young Township, around 10:30 a.m. Friday.

Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — A former prison guard at SCI Benner was sentenced Tuesday on charges related to smuggling contraband into the facility.
Kevin Hoch was sentenced to serve 9-and-a-half to 23-and-a-half months in the county jail.
Hoch was arrested last November after he admitted to being paid by an inmate's family to smuggle to contraband into the prison.
According to the affidavit, authorities began investigating Hoch after prison staff had reviewed phone conversations, made by the unidentified inmate, and suspected that a package was going to be delivered to Hoch's home.
(TND) — A pair of muscle cars top the list of most-stolen vehicles for model years 2020-22, according to the Highway Loss Data Institute.
Theft claims for the top car, the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat, were more than 60 times more frequent than the average for all 2020-22 models, the HLDI said.
The list features vehicles that are valuable and powerful, HLDI’s director of insurance outreach Kay Wakeman said.
“That's reflected in the top two vehicles on the list,” she said.
Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — State Representative Frank Burns is calling on the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to take corrective action by changing the public housing policy that allegedly makes the Johnstown Housing Authority "fiscally responsible" for Section 8 housing payments, even after a voucher holder leaves the city.
According to newly obtained documents, Rep. Burns says that the Johnstown Housing Authority reportedly paid $1.5 million, in 2019, to cover the costs for families who were no longer residing in the city.

Authorities in Westmoreland County say a man and woman have been charged in connection to the accidental shooting of a 4-year-old boy in Rostraver Township.
Investigators say in July, police were called to a home for reports that the child had shot himself with a handgun.

University Park, PA (WJAC) — Plans for renovations at Beaver Stadium could be moving forward.
On May 21st, a special meeting of the Penn State Board of Trustees has a topic listed on its agenda as "proposed project approval, Beaver Stadium renovation.”
A $700 million renovation project was announced last year to primarily focus on the west side of the stadium, where luxury suites and other improvements would be added.
The director of Clearfield County Children, Youth, and Family Services says that they have been experiencing staffing issues and due to a lack of placement facilities, a few kids have had to stay overnight at their office in downtown Clearfield.

People cannot walk in and buy the test off the shelf. They must have a prescription and get them online through the Little Clinic.

WILKINSBURG, Pa. -- Five people are confirmed dead and another three are injured after a shooting in a neighborhood outside of Pittsburgh just before 11 p.m. Wednesday.
The incident happened on the 1300 block of Franklin Avenue in Wilkinsburg during some sort of party or cookout in the backyard.
Three women and one man were killed and pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. Three others were taken from the scene in ambulances and one of them died at the hospital.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. (WBMA) — An assistant principal at McAdory Middle School was arrested in connection to a triple homicide that happened in Georgia more than a decade ago.
According to Jefferson County jail records, 45-year-old Keante Harris' was arrested Wednesday and charged with being a fugitive from justice.
ABC 33/40's Georgia affiliate WSB-TV reported that Harris is one of four suspects. According to WSB-TV, in January 2013, a Union City police officer found an abandoned 2010 Dodge Charger along I-85.

According to Somerset officials, a 15-year-old boy fell from rocks near the Cove Rocks on state forest property of Mount Davis Road.

ALTOONA – The Logan Valley Mall is about to get a new owner.
Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust announced in a news that, "A purchase and sale agreement has been executed with a significant non-refundable deposit and closing anticipated during the third quarter.”
PREIT did not reveal the buyer or the purchase price for the mall.
Officials said it is one of three transactions that will net approximately $75 million toward the company’s outlined capital plan.

The Liberty Justice Center filed a lawsuit this week against the Davidson County Board of Education in Lexington, North Carolina, on behalf of a 16-year-old student. An assistant principal at the school is also named in the suit.
The boy, Christian McGhee, asked a clarifying question in class that resulted in “a harsh suspension and false accusations of racism by his own school,” according to the Liberty Justice Center.
MACCLENNY, Fla. (WPEC) — A babysitter in Florida is facing an aggravated manslaughter charge after she left a 10-month-old girl in a hot car, according to the Baker County Sheriff's Office (BCSO).
Rhonda Jewell, 46, picked up a 10-month-old infant from the child’s mother Wednesday and has watched the child on multiple occasions since June, deputies said. Jewell proceeded to drive to another home in south Macclenny, where she was going to babysit other children as well, a press release stated.
In recent years, 4-day school weeks have been becoming more and more popular among schools in the United states. University officials say he's leaving the post to pursue other opportunities and spend time with family.
Morris is an alumnus of the university who has served as chief since 2017.
He was in charge of police operations at 22 university campuses.
He was also a 20-year veteran of the Allentown Police Department.
Deputy Chief Tom Sowerby will remain the commanding officer at University Park.
ALTOONA, Pa. (WJAC) – A state representative wants a railroad corporation to step up, following three rounds of layoffs from Norfolk Southern’s Juniata Locomotive Shops in 2019.
Rep. Lou Schmitt has a personal connection with the Pennsylvania Railroad in Altoona. His grandfather moved from Germany to work on the railroad in 1907, and his father started there in the late 1940s. During Schmitt’s time in office, hundreds of railroad workers have been laid off, causing him grief.
Universities and colleges in Pennsylvania said Thursday’s ruling by the Supreme Court to strike down affirmative action in admissions should have little impact on them.

WEST MIFFLIN, Pa. (AP) — A western Pennsylvania amusement park says its newest and biggest attraction is back up and running after a brief shutdown.
A spokesman for Kennywood Park near Pittsburgh says the Steel Curtain roller coaster reopened Wednesday afternoon and has been operating smoothly ever since.

CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Authorities say a Muncy man is behind bars in Clearfield County after he was accused of having sex with a teenage girl, twice.
Police say 33-year-old Nirav Patel reportedly engaged in sexual activity with a 13-year-old girl in a van in Cooper Township.
Police say the teen told authorities that Patel provided her with E-cigarettes in exchange for the sex.
Troopers say Patel also allegedly provided the girl, and another 13-year-old, with alcohol before the second assault.

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Authorities in Cambria County say an Elmora man is facing sexual assault charges for allegedly abusing a young girl over multiple years.
According to a probable-cause affidavit, 36-year-old Robert Hook Jr. reportedly began sexually assaulting the girl in 2021, when she was 11 or 12 years old.
The girl told police that the abuse occurred on a weekly basis and ended in May or June of 2023, according to the affidavit.

BLACKLICK TOWNSHIP – A 33-year-old Nanty Glo man who died in a single-vehicle crash Sunday night has been identified as Joshua Reesey.
Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees said Monday an autopsy revealed that Reesey died of blunt force trauma.
The manner of death was ruled accidental.

MELBOURNE, Australia (TND) — Passengers on a Virgin Australia flight from Perth to Melbourne got quite the show when a naked man ran down the aisle mid-flight forcing the plane to turn around. Lance Ross, the former owner of The Freight Station bar in Johnstown, was found "violently assaulted" inside of his own establishment in February according to the Cambria County Coroner.

An official from the Cambria County 911 Center says they already received 7 accidental calls just before noon today and with current work shortages, it makes the job more challenging.

HANOVER, Pa. (WJAC) — The Pennsylvania bald eagle pair’s eaglet, who was once an “adorable fluffball,” is ready to take flight any day now, according to Raptor Ecology Specialist Zoey Greenburg.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — After the death of University of Missouri student Riley Strain, 22, there’s been a push to make Music City more responsible.
Strain was on a trip with his fraternity to Nashville in March, when staff members at Luke Bryan’s Broadway bar asked him to leave for over-drinking. His next path was his last.

CURWENSVILLE, Pa. (WJAC) — A morning fire in Clearfield County Tuesday has left a mother and her three children without a home, officials say.
According to fire officials on scene, flames broke out at a mobile home on Fulton Road in Curwensville just after 11 a.m.
Curwensville Police were the first on scene and reported flames shooting out of the front and side of the mobile home.
The family was reportedly in the process of moving out.
Crews were on scene of a fire at Hauger's Automative Services in Stoystown for several hours early Saturday morning, emergency officials said.
According to deputy chief for Shanksville Volunteer Fire Department John Abramowich, the call came in around 2:30 a.m.
The owner of the shop Robert Hauger said he and his wife Laura saw the fire from their bedroom window after they were woken up in their nearby home to the sound of a smoke detector going off.

HUNTINGDON– Huntingdon County residents may no longer have to travel far to seek cancer treatment.
J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital is adding a cancer treatment program in the new year.
Some staff members at the hospital said they've been waiting over 25 years for this program.

Harold David Haulman III pleaded guilty in Calhoun County District Court to second-degree murder in the death of 21-year-old Ashley Marie Parlier, Prosecutor David Gilbert said.
Parlier went missing from her Battle Creek, Michigan, home on June 12, 2005, after her family, who believes she was pregnant, said she had an argument with her parents.

Authorities say Jordan Mink, of Oakdale, and Matthew Perna, of Sharon, face charges related to criminal acts at the Capitol earlier this month.

JOHNSTOWN -- The newest compressed natural gas fueling station in Pennsylvania opened Thursday morning with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — An acquaintance has been charged in the death of a Philadelphia journalist who went from sleeping on the street to working for the mayor to writing columns on the city's most pressing social issues.
Robert Edmond Davis, 19, faces murder, weapons counts and related charges in the death of Josh Kruger, 39, who was shot and killed at his Philadelphia home Oct. 2. A warrant had been issued for Davis four days later and authorities have said they have video of him in the area of Kruger's home before the shooting.

UPDATE |Somerset Co., PA (WJAC) — Somerset County officials have identified the victim of Wednesday night's crash in Somerset Township.
Deputy coroner Alexis Lichty says 58-year-old Christopher Revello, of Somerset Township, was pronounced dead around 8:45 p.m.

RICHLAND TOWNSHIP- The Richland Volunteer Fire Department and the Cambria County Coroner are on scene of a fatal fire. According to Deputy Fire Chief Bob Heffelfinger, crews responded to a home on Erickson Drive for a house fire around 11:45 a.m. Friday.
When they arrived, there were fire conditions in the living room of the home and firefighters found the deceased man in the living room.
Heffelfinger said they are investigating the cause of the fire and the state fire marshal has been contacted.
HUNTINGDON – The Salvation Army churchgoers came together for a celebration Sunday.
Nearly three years ago, a church on Shadyside Avenue went up in flames -- leaving the building unrecognizable.
Now the Huntingdon County community is coming together to celebrate.
"It makes me feel happy that it's fixed," resident Owen Hess said.
A building rededication was held, to celebrate the walls of a new church that is finally rebuilt.
Residents have seen two fires and years of repairing a church in Huntingdon.

Police have released more details regarding a shooting that occurred at MorGainz Fitness, in Jackson Township, Cambria County, Sunday morning.
According to officers with the Jackson Township Police Department, the shooting involved one juvenile who accidentally shot himself in a car in the parking lot of the business around 11:30 a.m.
Officials said the 13-year-old was taken to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

Art came to life at Shanksville Elementary School in Somerset County Friday with a collaboration between high schoolers and the elementary students.
This year's theme was monsters, so the elementary school was decorated with pictures of monsters; and students read monster books like The Color Monster.

CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Police say a Glenside man is facing charges for sexually assaulting a Penn State student.
Joshua Robinson faces felony sexual assault and aggravated indecent assault without consent.
Penn State University police say they were called to the hospital in February to speak to the victim.
They say the victim explained that she met Robinson at an off-campus party and when they went back to his room, he violently assaulted her.
SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Lawmakers in Pennsylvania are looking to remove the ban on Sunday hunting, but some local farmers say this could be a change in the wrong direction.
Farmers in Somerset County say their farm is in a cooperative agreement with the Pennsylvania Game Commission. However, they say they’re urging state senators to vote in favor of the ban on Sunday hunting in the state.
John and Roberta Peck, of Fort Hill, say their farm has been in their family for over 200 years.

UNIVERSITY PARK (WJAC) – Penn State University has permanently revoked recognition of Beta Theta Pi and banned the fraternity from ever returning as a chapter at the school, officials said Thursday.
The decision was made in the wake of the recent death of Penn State sophomore Timothy Piazza at the fraternity.
As Penn State’s student conduct investigation of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity continues, more facts have emerged, including a persistent pattern of serious alcohol abuse, hazing and the use and sale of illicit drugs, the university said.
PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (AP) — Punxsutawney Phil's offspring now have names that just might help the famed weather-forecasting groundhog to predict when spring will begin.
Phil's human handlers chose Mother's Day to announce that the two kits born this spring to Phil and his partner, Phyllis, are named Sunny and Shadow. Sunny is a female, Shadow a male.
Each spring, Phil makes a prediction about the length of the remaining winter. According to tradition, if he sees his shadow there will be six more weeks of cold.
WINDBER, Pa. (WJAC) — A senior living and retirement community in Somerset County celebrated a grand reopening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday.
Several upgrades were made to the Winber Woods Senior Living and Rehabilitation Center.
Caring Health Systems came in to revamp the center's operations.
The center features a 27-acre campus with multiple levels of care, including rehabilitation services, long-term nursing and care in advanced nursing areas.
There is also a 32-bed personal care home that enables independent living with 24-hour care.

SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Authorities in Somerset County say a Boswell man is facing charges after several files of child pornography were allegedly found on his computer.
Police say the investigation began in late 2021 after Snapchat reported images of suspected child sex abuse being uploaded.

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — Police say a Johnstown man struck a woman Wednesday with a baseball bat because she refused to get him a cheeseburger.
Police say the incident happened at a home on the 600 block of Bedford Street.

JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. (WKRC) — A part-time ski instructor's death has been ruled a homicide after a collision with another skier, according to reports.

Rostraver Township, Pennsylvania — Authorities say a 4-year-old boy in Rostraver Township was airlifted to the hospital on Thursday after suffering a gunshot wound to the head.
Police were called to Gauido Drive after the child was found shot in the head, according to the Westmoreland County District Attorney's Office.
He was flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh.

MANCHESTER, N.H. (WKRC) — A teen trapped a mother and daughter inside a porta-potty after an argument by pushing it over onto the hard pavement, according to authorities. Aiden Studer, 18, faces multiple charges after allegedly tipping over a portable toilet while a mother and her 4-year-old daughter were still inside on May 8.
The Manchester Police Department in New Hampshire said Studer pushed the portable toilet over after getting into an argument with the mother.
Authorities in California arrested a man this week for allegedly posing as a fake priest and stealing from numerous churches across the US.
Riverside County deputies say Malin Rostas used the alias of "Father Martin" to get access to churches and allegedly rob them.
The 45-year-old New York native was apprehended during a traffic stop and was booked for an outstanding felony warrant in Pennsylvania.

One man has been pronounced dead after being thrown from his motorcycle in Clinton Township, Lycoming County, Friday, state police said.
According to a press release, David Nangle, 74, was traveling downhill trying to negotiate a right curve in the road on Route 15 when he struck a guide rail.
State police said Nangle was then thrown from his motorcycle down an embankment.
The press release states that his motorcycle continued to travel down the highway, striking a concrete barrier multiple times, before finally stopping a short distance away in the southbound lane of travel.
JOHNSTOWN - A replica of a World War II fighter that was piloted by local ace, Lt. Col Boyd "Buzz" Wagner, was moved from a nearby hangar to the front of the main terminal Friday at the John Murtha Johnstown-Cambria County Airport.
Wagner is a native of Emeigh, Cambria County.
The replica plane, purchased through a fundraising campaign of more than two years, is a Curtiss P-40 Warhawk, which Wagner flew in World War II as a member of the Army Air Corps.

The jury returned a guilty verdict -- on six charges -- after Thomas was convicted of assaulting a Windber woman in September of 2021.

Cambria Co., PA (WJAC) — The death of a man found in a Carrolltown pond last month has officially been ruled accidental.
The Cambria County coroner's office says 42-year-old Eric Bender died from drowning.
Authorities say alcohol intoxication was also identified as a contributing factor.
Bender was found in the early morning hours of June 19th in a pond about 10 feet deep off Dindios Street.
Authorities say he reportedly lived nearby.

County authorities say the fire started at a home along William Penn Ave. just after 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Attorneys working in rural parts of the state say they have their work cut out for them. Vacant positions showing up for those who are retiring. WASHINGTON (AP) — The judge overseeing Donald Trump's classified documents case in Florida on Tuesday denied prosecutors' request to bar the former president from making public statements that could endanger law enforcement agents participating in the prosecution.
U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon said in her order that prosecutors on special counsel Jack Smith's team didn't give defense lawyers adequate time to discuss the request before it was filed Friday evening. She denied the request without prejudice, meaning prosecutors could file it again.
Cambria Co., PA (WJAC) — State police in Cambria County have filed charges against a Portage woman following an investigation into accusations that she sexually assaulted two teenage girls at a party last summer.
Troopers say Christina Aponte, now age 32, is also accused of proving alcohol and marijuana to the teens prior to the alleged assault.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — The Oregon Lottery says the ticket worth $1.326 billion was sold in Portland. The ticket was purchased on Saturday, April 6.
Someone in Oregon also won a $50,000 prize, the lottery said.

One man is dead after being struck by a vehicle in Dauphin County Thursday morning, state police said.
According to a press release, the incident occurred just before 5:30 a.m. on South River Road a half of a mile north of US 322 in Reed Township.

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. — A Blairsville woman has died as the result of a single-vehicle crash in West Carroll Township early Sunday morning, Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees said.
According to Lees, Hannah Adams was travelling north on Deveaux Street just before 1:30 a.m. when she failed to negotiate a curve.
Lees said that Adams then lost control and hit a dumpster before striking a parked car.
According to Lees, Adams was taken to Conemaugh Miners Medical Center where she was pronounced dead at around 2:45 a.
Westmoreland County, PA — Officials in Westmoreland County say multiple businesses were damaged early Tuesday morning as a fire spread through a Latrobe-area shopping center.
According to our NBC affiliate WPXI, flames were seen "shooting through the roof" of the Latrobe 30 shopping plaza in Unity Township.

A Fidelity spokesperson Tuesday said they counted 485,000 such accounts as of the first quarter of the year, up 15% from the previous quarter and up 43% from a year ago.

BLAIR COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Monday kicked off firearn deer hunting season, and with it each year a half-million meals will be given to those in need, thanks to hunters. Since 1991, a nonprofit charity, Hunters Sharing the Harvest, has donated more than 1 million pounds of venison throughout Pennsylvania.
Donations for the 2017-2018 hunting season were record breaking, with 3,337 deer being donated, which provided 667,400 meals.

The Westmont Borough Council voted Tuesday night to amend their fencing and temporary signage ordinance thatcaused some controversy last August. They voted unanimously to allow five signs per residential property for a maximum of 30 days.
Westmont Borough received backlash over the summer of 2022 when thePennsylvania A.C.L.U was contacted by residents who received violation notices for the signs in their yard. Borough council stated that the issue seemed to be over the question of political signs which are only allowed to be put up thirty days before an election per an ordinance put into place in the early 2000's.
