At Cambria County 911 center, precise location is critical part of process

EBENSBURG -- According to the Federal Communications Commission, it's estimated that about 70 percent of 911 calls are placed from wireless phones and that percentage is growing. The problem is, 911 dispatch centers can't always get a precise location when you call in from a cellphone. Last year, Cambria County 911 processed 60,000 calls. About 40,000 of those came from cellphones. And right now, it's not as simple as it may seem to find you in an emergency, with outdated technology still in use.

Mining company presents potential plan to Conemaugh Township Supervisors

The RES Coal company gave a presentation at a regularly scheduled township supervisor’s meeting on Wednesday evening. While nothing is set in stone, some residents are concerned about the impact of mining on the local area. RES Coal is petitioning for a zoning change on a property between the village of Jerome and the Jenner Township line near the Quemahoning reservoir in Conemaugh Township. The company presented some details to the township supervisors stating that they hope to mine coal from 36 acres of the property.

Rachel's Challenge visits Brookville

BROOKVILLE, Pa.--Rachel Joy Scott was the first of 12 students killed in the 1999 massacre at Columbine High School. Her father, Darrell Scott, created Rachel's Challenge to carry on her beliefs and spread the message of compassion and anti-bullying. Brookville School District students in grades three through 12 first learned the history of Rachel. The program is based on five challenges that come from the writings of Rachel. She wrote six diaries and several journals.
