Water authority approves surcharge on some vacant properties in Johnstown

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — Now that the plans to pursue windmills on Laurel Ridge have been scrapped, eliminating the chance to generate about $250,000 annually, the Greater Johnstown Water Authority is looking for others to generate money. Competitive Power Ventures said Thursday that it will not pursue the controversial project. That was good news for residents who didn't want to see their tree-lined views ruined and property values impacted on the 6,000-acre property.

2-year-old boy missing after mom found murdered in her apartment

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WEAR) — An AMBER Alert has been issued for a 2-year-old boy after his mother was found murdered in her apartment. Authorities in Florida said they're searching for Taylen Mosley, and that he was last seen Wednesday in St. Petersburg. The Amber alert was issued Thursday. Taylen is described as having brown hair and brown eyes, weighing 30 pounds, and standing at 2 feet. Investigators said he is not with his father.

Bedford baseball team unveils new scoreboard honoring late coach

BEDFORD COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — A new score board was unveiled Tuesday for the Bedford Bisons baseball team. A ribbon-cutting was held at the baseball field as the new scoreboard honors Gary Waugerman, who coached at the school for 45 years. One long-time fan says she started raising money after noticing there was nothing at the field to honor him. She says she thought it would take years to raise the money, but thanks to local businesses and community members, it took just 6 months to raise the necessary funds.
