'Workforce of the future:' PA Lt. Gov. headlines final day of Aerium Summit

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Thursday was the last day of the Aerium Summit at the John Murtha Johnstown-Cambria County Airport, which featured Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis speaking at the event. Lt. Gov. Davis is also the chair of the Pennsylvania chapter of the Aerospace States Association. Davis says he wants to support growing industries in the Commonwealth, like aerospace and aviation, to compete with nearby states like Ohio and West Virginia.

2 dogs resuscitated, recovering after being pulled from Altoona fire that killed man

BLAIR COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Officials say two dogs are recovering after being rescued from an Altoona house fire that claimed the life of a man. City officials offered condolences to the family and friends of 75-year-old Mark Stuart whom they say unfortunately died of smoke inhalation from the fire. The devastating fire happened Tuesday evening when flames broke out at a home at 118 E. 5th Ave. As crews searched the home and made sure other occupants were out, the Altoona Fire Department removed two dogs from the first floor.

Hundreds gather for return of Ethnic Fest

JOHNSTOWN, Pa (WJAC) — The Cambria City Ethnic Festival is filling the streets of Johnstown this weekend. The festival is held each year, on Labor Day weekend, in the historic Cambria City section of Johnstown. The free tradition draws crowds for its display of ethnic foods, as well as live music, dancing, and church tours. Local businesses have been preparing for the event for days. Festival vendors span from 3rd to 10th Avenue.

Port Matilda continues Earth Day traditions in memory of late school employee

Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — Students at Port Matilda Elementary School in Centre County are spending the rest of the school week doing activities related to Earth Day. On Thursday, the students participated in painting bird houses, planting trees and crops, and more; and students will plant more seeds and flowers on Friday. The Port Matilda staff chose to continue Earth Day student activities in memory of long-time elementary school employee Bindy Bracken.

Woman fatally struck by train in Lebanon Co. identified by police

LEBANON COUNTY, Pa, (WHP) — UPDATE | The Lebanon City Police Department identified the victim as 43-year-old Jessie Ginnetto of Lebanon. Police are asking for anyone with additional information to contact the Lebanon City PD. UPDATE | According to the Lebanon City Police Department, officers were called to the 800 block of Scull Street and the railroad for a report of someone being struck by a Norfolk Southern train.
