Woman threatened local magistrate hundreds of times, police say

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Authorities in Cambria County say a Colorado woman is behind bars after she reportedly threatened a local magistrate, as well as her former employer, hundreds of times over a period of several weeks. Jackson Township police say the investigation began in mid-March after they learned that a woman, later identified as 46-year-old Sarah Byrne, had been repeatedly harassing staff members at the office of Magisterial District Judge Mary Ann Zanghi.

(AP) — A Philadelphia man who spent more than two decades behind bars for a murder he didn't commit is a free man — 17 years after another man confessed to the crime. John Miller was released Wednesday after 22 years in prison. Surrounded by family outside the State Correctional Institution at Mahanoy, 100 miles north of Philadelphia, he said it felt "surreal." In 1998, a jury found Miller guilty of second-degree murder in the shooting death of a man in a parking lot outside 30th Street Station two years prior, even though there was no physical evidence of his involvement.

2023 PA Farm Show butter sculpture revealed

HARRISBURG, DAUPHIN CO. — Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture Russell Redding, local dairy farmer Steve Harnish and other guests joined the American Dairy Association North East in unveiling the 2023 Pennsylvania Farm Show Butter Sculpture today. The sculpture, a longstanding Farm Show tradition, is crafted from 1,000 pounds of butter donated by the Land O’Lakes plant in Carlisle, Pa. The sculpture features multiple life sized figures, animals, and a giant scenic keystone.

Penn Highlands officials warning residents of 'scam' phone calls

DUBOIS - Penn Highlands Healthcare officials are warning residents of what they are calling scam phone calls. According to officials, a person is pretending to be a representative from Penn Highlands and is asking unsuspecting victims for their personal information and are also trying to sell insurance and benefit packages. Officials said that the caller ID is coming up as Penn Highlands. Penn Highlands officials said that no one from the facility is selling such packages and are reminding to citizens to not share any personal information.

Police investigating apparent accidental shooting of boy, 4, in Rostraver Township

Rostraver Township, Pennsylvania — Authorities say a 4-year-old boy in Rostraver Township was airlifted to the hospital on Thursday after suffering a gunshot wound to the head. Police were called to Gauido Drive after the child was found shot in the head, according to the Westmoreland County District Attorney's Office. He was flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh. Authorities say the shooting appears to be accidental and officers at Children's Hospital are waiting for an update on the child's condition, but it is reported that he made it through surgery.
